Definium’s Nexus 8 gateway is an industrial-grade internet-of-things (IoT) gateway designed for deploying LoRa®/LoRaWAN® networks at scale in urban, rural, and harsh environments.
The gateway features a high-performance 8-channel LoRa® ISM-band radio with capacity for thousands of devices within a radius of 10 – 25 km. Multiple backhaul networking technologies simplify deployment, with power-over-ethernet or LTE allowing the gateway to be deployed in challenging locations.
Available solar power and LTE allows the gateway to be installed in the most optimal position in rural or remote locations. For those extra-hard-to-reach places, support for a built-in LoRaWAN server and satellite radio provides coverage anywhere on the surface of the world.
Multiple Nexus 8 gateways can be effectively co-located to create gateway installations of 16 or more channels, allowing you to add capacity slowly over time. Other gateways in the Nexus range feature higher-capacity radios (such as the Nexus 32, with 32-channel LoRa).
The built-in multi-constellation GNSS accurately locates the gateway for RSSI-based triangulation, assists with gateway time synchronisation, and improves radio transmit frequency calibration.
The Embedded Linux operating system powering the gateway is fully open to the user, enabling custom configuration and application installation.
Out-of-the-box support for multiple major LoRaWAN® networks makes setup a breeze, and secure cryptographic storage means nobody can infiltrate your network—even if they gain physical control.
The LoRa® radio is fully configurable and supports the creation of custom LoRa® and FSK protocols or running a local closed-loop LoRaWAN® server without Internet connectivity required.
Definium Technologies designs and manufactures its devices in-house in Launceston, Tasmania. Definium produces a broad range of gateways and sensors to use in any IoT network.
