Device Maker Journey
Welcome to the LoRaWAN® Device Maker Journey! This page provides a comprehensive, step-by-step guide for device makers to navigate the process—from first discovering LoRaWAN technology to scaling up production and shipping certified LoRaWAN devices. Explore key resources, including use cases, technical specifications, and certification processes, and learn how to build, test, and market your device within the LoRa Alliance ecosystem. Whether you’re just starting or ready to scale, this journey outlines everything you need to succeed in the world of LoRaWAN.

Here’s the high-level step-by-step journey for a device maker starting with hearing about LoRaWAN technology for the first time to shipping LoRaWAN devices in scale.
- Get familiar with the LoRaWAN technology
- Build your first end-to-end use case by using end-devices, gateways, and network servers listed in LoRa Alliance Marketplace.
- Use open-source stack to build your prototype end-device.
- Get your device certified by the LoRa Alliance (requires joining the Alliance). Use LoRaWAN Certification Test Tool (LCTT) to validate your device’s compliance with the standard, get your device certified either thru self-testing or authorized test houses to showcase its compliance and reliability to the market.
- Run interop test between your end-device and various Network Servers and Join Servers.
- Build your ecosystem. Meet and collaborate with chip makers, module makers, solution makers, network server vendors, system integrators, etc. Best way to do that is to join the LoRa Alliance and carve your own ecosystem out of LoRa Alliance members. Meet and get to know your prospective partners by participating the online and in-person meetings. We highly recommend joining the Device and Solution Makers Forum, and various vertical task forces, such as Smart Water and Energies, Smart Industries, Smart Cities and Buildings, etc.
- Get your globally unique Vendor ID (requires joining the LoRa Alliance) and generate standard device QR codes to simplify device onboarding.
- Productize your end-device and have LoRa Alliance amplify your marketing (requires joining the Alliance)
- Get your company listed in the member directory
- Get your products listed in the LoRa Alliance Marketplace.
- Join trade shows and webinars with the LoRa Alliance
- Take advantage of speaking opportunities
