In industrial facilities, integrating IoT modules with existing automation infrastructures (PLC + SCADA/DCS) using LoRaWAN architecture is a viable and effective approach. This integration allows for remote data collection, monitoring, and optimization of control processes. LoRaWAN, a low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) protocol, enables wireless transmission of low-bandwidth data over long distances.
The key components of this system are:
- IoT Sensors and Modules: These sensors monitor various industrial parameters (e.g., temperature, pressure, humidity) and are equipped with LoRaWAN-compatible modules. LoRaWAN gateway receives data from the IoT modules and transmits it to a cloud platform or a local server.
- Cloud Platform or Local Server: Data is collected, analyzed, and processed at this stage. Integration APIs or industrial protocols such as Modbus, OPC UA are used to transfer this data to existing PLC + SCADA/DCS systems.
- PLC + SCADA/DCS System: These systems process the IoT data and manage automation processes. LoRaWAN data is integrated into the facility’s overall control strategy, enabling more detailed monitoring and faster response times.
