LoRa Alliance® Regulatory Activities
Championing LoRaWAN® in Global Regulatory Landscapes
At the LoRa Alliance, we are dedicated to safeguarding the interests of the LoRaWAN® ecosystem by addressing regulatory challenges, and by fostering an environment where IoT innovation and collaboration can flourish.
Engaging Regulators: By engaging with policy makers and by interacting with regulatory bodies worldwide, we introduce the LoRaWAN technology and the LoRa Alliance’s missions.
Detect, Evaluate, and React to Evolving Regulatory Landscape
We work proactively to safeguard the LoRaWAN® ecosystem from regulatory risks by identifying potential threats early and coordinating responses across global and local levels.
- Protecting the Ecosystem: We actively monitor the global regulatory landscape to identify and address potential challenges (spectrum, certification, cybersecurity…) that could impact the LoRaWAN community.
- Collaborative Advocacy: Partnering with prominent organizations, such as ETSI and ITU, enhances our ability to influence regulatory outcomes and secure long-term benefits for our members.
- Localized Support: With the insights and contributions of our local members, we address region-specific issues and engage expert legal support when needed.
Pursue Band Expansion
Advancing Global Spectrum Access:
To support LoRaWAN innovations from LoRa Alliance members, the Regulatory Working Group has collaborated with regulators to expand the available spectrum in the 915MHz band and facilitate harmonisation of the 868MHz band for LoRaWAN satellite communications
Engaging Regulators: By interacting with regulatory bodies worldwide, we introduce the LoRaWAN technology and the LoRa Alliance’s mission, fostering awareness and support among decision-makers.

Access the Global Spectrum Database
LoRa Alliance Members Only
This database provides a summary of an ongoing international survey of sub-1 GHz spectrum allocations for short-range devices in general. It includes frequencies available for LoRaWAN, along with information—where available—on device certification requirements and the authorizations needed to operate networks or offer commercial IoT services
Access to database available to Regulatory Working Group Members only.
Proven Impact:
Regulatory Wins That Move the Market
Our ongoing engagement with regulators has led to meaningful outcomes—shaping policies, expanding spectrum access, and removing barriers to adoption. These successes demonstrate the power of collective advocacy and the value of Alliance membership.
Extending LoRaWAN IoT Connectivity to Satellite Networks

The Electronic Communications Committee (ECC) has officially approved the regulatory framework for satellite-to-LPD-S communications in the 862-870MHz SRD frequency band across Europe. This landmark decision, supported by the LoRa Alliance, paves the way for satellite-enabled LoRaWAN solutions, opening new opportunities for IoT applications in logistics, agriculture, and remote asset management.
Israel Authorizes Commercial LoRaWAN® Deployments

Following sustained collaboration with the LoRa Alliance® and member company Actility, Israel’s Ministry of Communications officially approved LoRaWAN use and opened the 917–920 MHz band, enabling nationwide commercial deployments and accelerating IoT innovation across sectors.
