NEX Shopping Mall Partners UnaBiz for Indoor Air Quality Monitoring to Ensure Good Air Quality and Optimise Energy Consumption
Thursday, 27 Sept 2023, SINGAPORE – NEX, the largest suburban mall in the northeast region of Singapore, partnered with UnaBiz, Massive IoT service provider and integrator, to enable data-driven ventilation in the shopping mall. By integrating indoor air quality (IAQ) monitoring with the mall’s heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) system to optimise airflow and energy consumption.
The main purpose of HVAC systems are to help maintain comfort and a stable temperature. A data-driven HVAC system helps ensure good air quality for shoppers and tenants wellness, while a high energy-efficiency system helps optimise energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions.
“As part of our strategic move to align our business operations with the company’s ESG goals, NEX has initiated numerous green initiatives in the running of the shopping mall. With UnaBiz’s IoT solution, we measure the IAQ of the mall every minute, which is equivalent to 1440 data points throughout the mall on a daily basis. The data is then seamlessly integrated into our local building management system managed by Honeywell. The smart control system automatically adjusts the air-conditioning to optimise thermal comfort for users, the air quality indoor, and the energy consumption of the HVAC system live. Facility managers can now take immediate actions to improve circulation of air, such as increasing the airflow within the mall, as traffic in the mall increases during peak hours, to create a healthier and safer environment for our shoppers, tenants, and staff,” said Eugene Toh, Senior Manager, Operations of NEX.

MClimate Releases Maintenance Free CO2 Display Powered By Organic Indoor Solar Cells from Epishine and LoRaWAN®
MClimate in joint efforts with Epishine, a leading indoor solar cell producer, is now offering the self-powered CO2 Display that can monitor Carbon dioxide (CO2). Using a low-power NDIR sensing module provided by one of the leading manufacturers worldwide, the device can be used for any indoor space like classrooms, offices, hospitals, shops, public buildings, and many more.
In recent years, particularly since the COVID-19 crisis, there has been a growing attention from environmental regulatory bodies on improving indoor air quality and implementing higher standards. This focus has become crucial for many companies and the general public, considering that individuals spend approximately 90% of their time indoors. Additionally scientific research has established a clear connection between elevated levels of certain pollutants and adverse health effects, especially among vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and individuals with chronic respiratory or cardiovascular conditions. Key indicators for measuring air quality and assessing potential health risks include carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration, along with temperature and humidity levels.

MClimate Releases Maintenance Free Wireless Thermostat Powered By Organic Indoor Solar Cells From Epishine and LoRaWAN®
10.05.2023 Linköping, Sweden and Sofia, Bulgaria
Smart buildings top industry player MClimate launches a wireless thermostat self-powered by Epishine’s indoor solar cell with leading performance in indoor light. The sensor measures temperature, movement, humidity, and lux all while being maintenance free.
The global trend towards digitalization and the widespread use of connected devices has led to a surge in the number of disposable batteries being used and discarded. According to recent projections, if this trend continues, an estimated 78 million batteries will be discarded daily within the European Union alone by 2025. At the same time, the need for connected devices has never been greater. Today, 36% of greenhouse gas emissions and 43% of the energy usage in the EU are related to usage of buildings. This can all be optimized and thereby minimized through insights through collected data from smart sensors, but the number of disposable batteries used needs to be lowered rather than increased by the deployment of these sensors.
